RSES Twin Cities Chapter
Meeting Notes
(Recorded by Jerry Meyer)
1-16-2010
Location: Holden Center, Dunwoody College of Technology, Minneapolis,
MN
BUSINESS MEETING
Present: Doug Dill, Jim Senst, CM, Jerry Meyer, CM, Rolf Blom, CMS, Howie Bolland, Scott Burrows, CMS.
President Doug Dill called the business meeting to order at 6:10 PM. There was no treasurer’s report and no committee reports.
Unfinished Business
President Dill reported that he accepted the resignation of Ed Grieman, Chapter Secretary, and received from Ed all documents related to the secretary’s position. After many years of excellent service to the chapter, Ed will be missed.
President Dill agreed to discuss with current officers and directors their thoughts on moving up to a “higher” officer position or opening the opportunity for other Chapter members to apply for the position. It was suggested that newer members be asked to run for offices rather than rely on the seasoned members.
“Director” positions were discussed. Doug Dill will assume the “Chairman” position. Pending their verification, it is assumed that Kevin Johnson will continue as “Web Master” and Bruce Kamperschroer will continue as “Newsletter”. Jerry Meyer questioned why there are three “Membership” positions. Jim Senst explained that, traditionally, there were three different roles: “Membership Director” and two “at large” positions to support the director and other chapter functions.
Nominations for Officer and Director positions will be accepted at the Chapter meeting on March 16th. Elections will be conducted at the April 27th meeting (4th Tuesday!)
Planning for the Gopher State Seminar (hosted by our Chapter) is underway. The theme will be “Electrical Troubleshooting”. The dates and location is to be determined. Scott Burrows volunteered to check on the availability of the VFW Hall in Fridley and communicate with Rolf Blom on its availability.
At the January meeting, a one-year chapter membership was “won” by a student a Century College. Jerry Meyer followed up with an email to the student but received no reply from the student.
New Business
Jerry Meyer announced the presenters and locations for the next three meetings as follows:
March 16 - John Lupkes, Manitowoc ice machines. Fort Snelling
Officer’s Club
April 27 (4th Tuesday of April) - Steve Swanson, Uponor in-floor heating.
Apple Valley, MN.
May 18 - Rolf Blom, Electronic Pressure Controls. “Awards Night”
(free dinner). Fort Snelling Officer’s Club
Announcements
Jerry Meyer announced a Manitowoc class coming to a local distributor of refrigeration products, Don Stevens, Inc. A flyer announcing the event was distributed to those present.
New Membership
There was discussion around the importance of growing our chapter membership. Brian Carlson moved to offer a one-year student membership to a Century College student attending this (the January) meeting. A prize drawing will be conducted at the current meeting. Chuck Desnick seconded the motion and the motion carried.
GENERAL SESSION
Eleven members attended the meeting. 33 non-members attended. The non-members were primarily students from Dunwoody College of Technology and Minneapolis Community and Technical College. Pizza and beverage was provided by the Chapter.
PROGRAM
VFDs in HVAC Applications. Presented by Dan Chudecke, B. J. Mulcahy Company.
